Charity

One of the main focuses of our organization, The Auslich
Ski and Recreational Club of Belmont Shore, is supporting charities. Our
donations have gone toward helping: The John Tracy Clinic, specializing in
hearing testing and treatment for children and infants; Valley View Vaulters,
which concentrates on helping handicapped children; Cedar House, home for abused
children; and The Special Olympics; and
spcaLA’s Animal Assisted
Therapy Program (AAT), in which people and their
animals make visitations to nursing homes, hospitals, homeless shelters and
other institutions.

This year, we are supporting
Food Finders, Inc., which believes that "All people should
be able to get a decent meal. We provide food to feed the
impoverished, hungry people in Los Angeles and Orange
Counties." Food
Finders serve as a resource link between donors, service
agencies and individuals in need, and function as a
referral source, directing individuals where they can go
in order to receive necessities to survive.

For the past two years, a donation was
made to The Long Beach Aquarium Of The Pacific to support their
Adopt-A-Classroom Program. This program provides free busing, admission and
educational programming to school children from underprivileged
neighborhoods who lack access to cultural and scientific learning resources
and who face barriers to experiencing California’s diverse natural resources.
We are supporting this program again this year. |

Auslich decided to launch a new program in 2004
to support our troops serving our country overseas. In a salute to
the Marine Reserves' Toys for Tots, we are calling our program "Toys
For Troops"; and we collected items to ship to the men and
women serving in Iraq and Afghanistan. We primarily focused on items that
will give our brave fighting men and women a few minutes of entertainment and relief
from the overwhelming stress of wartime and peace-keeping activities in a foreign country. Funds to
cover shipping expenses were also raised. Suggested items
include CDs, DVDs, paperback books, magazines, board games, card games,
electronic hand-held games, and lots of batteries (AA & AAA), etc.
Checks can be written to underwrite the costs
of shipping, etc., and should be made payable to the: Troops Now and
Tomorrow, Inc.
